The Government of Guyana (GoG), through the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), has been informed by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited (EMGL) and Hess Guyana (Block B) Exploration Limited (Hess) of their intent to withdraw from the Kaieteur Block. EMGL and Hess hold a 35% and 20% participating interest respectively.
Though the co-venture partners are still in discussions, the process of transferring their interests will have to be in alignment with the Petroleum Activities Act 2023 and its Regulations and the Kaieteur Petroleum Agreement and its associated Prospecting Licence. Upon receipt of a formal application to exit the Block, the MNR will evaluate the application in accordance with the relevant legislation and regulatory tools.
